thesynaxarium:Today we celebrate the Holy Myrrhbearer and Equal to the Apostles, Mary Magdalene. Saint Mary Magdalene was a fervent disciple of Christ, from the beginning of His ministry, all the way up until His Crucifixion and Burial. With her own eyes, she saw the Lord die and be buried, and was the first to see Him resurrected. After the Ascension, she travelled all around the Roman Empire, even to parts of France and Africa, spending most of her time in Rome, where she announced to the Roman Emperor himself, Tiberius Caesar, the good tidings of the Resurrection and greeted him with the words “Christ is risen!” while presenting him with a red egg. This tradition has been passed down to us even today. She ended her earthly life in Ephesus of Asia Minor with the Apostle John the Theologian.
