Remains of portal, San Ignacio Mini, Misiones, Argentina, 2007.Perhaps the best known of the Jesuit reducciones and a world heritage site, San Ignacio Mini has numerous ruins from buildings constructed when the Jesuits gathered the indigenes into large settlements. There were a number of such settlements scattered from what is now Bolivia and Paraguay eastwards to southern Brasil. When the order was driven out of South America in 1767, the settlements were abandoned. -- source link
