anatomicdeadspace: Robert the doll is an allegedly haunted or cursed doll that originally was owned by painter Robert Eugene Otto. The story goes that Otto was gifted the doll in 1906 by a Bahamian servant who practiced voodoo. Initially Otto’s parents didn’t find anything strange about the doll, despite hearing Otto speaking to him regularly. However, the doll was heard to talk back, and while they thought that Otto was putting on a novel voice in conversation with the doll, over time they began to suspect that something more sinister was occurring. Neighbours would also report seeing the doll moving in the window on occasion. As time went on Otto appeared to become frightened of the doll, and his parents would sometimes overhear Robert the doll demanding Otto to do things for him. Otto’s parents began to find his other toys about the home, mutilated and destroyed. When furniture was destroyed Otto would inform his mother that ‘Robert did it’. He remained attached to the doll into his adult life, living alone in the family home with the toy after his parents passed away. Eventually he married, and after insistence from his wife he moved Robert to the attic. People would claim that when they visited his home they would hear giggling and the sound of footsteps coming from the attic. The doll is currently housed in the East Martello Museum in Key West, where the strange occurrences surrounding the doll allegedly continue - with staff overhearing noises such as tapping on his glass case, and he’s able to reposition himself in his case when staff are not looking. -- source link
