ygoreviews:Enlightenment Paladin————————————————1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monstersIf this card is Synchro Summoned using a “Magician” Pendulum Monster as Material: You can target 1 Spell Card in your Graveyard; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of “Enlightenment Paladin” once per turn. When this card destroys an opponent’s monster by battle: You can inflict damage to your opponent equal to that monster’s original ATK.————————————————Can Be Found In: Breakers of Shadow (BOSH-EN047), Pendulum Evolution (PEVO-EN031)Most cards are available for any Deck as long they manage to play them without many difficulties. However, there are some particular cases where a card’s effects will provide some bonuses when working on a particular theme or requeriments. While not exactly restricting themselves to a specific theme or archetype, obviously these cards will be at their peak if meeting their special conditions. So overall, while still useful for most builds, in the end you’ll see them in strategies that can obtain their optional abilities with ease.“Enlightenment Paladin” is a Synchro Monster with a solid ability to break through the opponent’s field, but provides a powerful ability by working along certain monsters. By default “Enlightenment Paladin” will deal damage equal to the original ATK of any monster that defeats in battle, making it a great offense to the point of finishing Duels under the right circumstances. But “Paladin” stands out more if Synchro Summoned if we use as material a Pendulum Magician, as in return we are able to retrieve a Spell Card from the Graveyard back to our hand. This last ability is what really makes this creature a threat, as while attacking to deal clean damage is effective by its own merits, the ability to recover powerful Spell Cards for immediate or later use can become so powerful under the right Graveyard that can completely overshadow its default effect.“Paladin” is available for any Deck can can achieve a Level 8 Synchro Summon, ranging from basic tools like “Summoner Monk” and “Masked Chameleon” to all sorts of archetypes. However, with the chance to recover a Spell Card is obvious that its best option is to play arround Pendulum Magicians. With cards like “Pendulum Call” and “Performapal Skullcrobat Joker” gathering members in our hand, soon enough we will have atleast one Magician ready for the Synchro Summon. In later turns due the Extra Monster Zone we might only recover one Magician by Pendulum Summon, but is more than enough to work along non-Pendulum materials as well cards like “Amazing Pendulum” to summon “Paladin” without many difficulties. Finally, if “Paladin” is taken down don’t hold back to revive it by cards such as “Black Fang Magician” as its offensive effect will still be helpful as the Duel progresses.By its own merits “Paladin” can become a powerful offense as deals damage no matter if is direct attacking or not. With 2500 ATK is more than enough to defeat many enemies on its own, but with further assistance of cards such as “Moon Mirror Shield” or “Enemy Controller” we will easily take down stronger foes while still dealing damage no matter what. However, “Paladin” will becoming a true menace if manages to retrieve a Spell Card, as depending of its target it can simply recover a card for later use or further improve our game right away. Since our Deck will mostly focus arround an archetype to achieve this ability, either we can recover cards like “Raigeki” to clear the opponent’s board and keep doing so each time we Synchro Summon a new “Paladin” (Once per turn), or retrieve key tools such as “Pendulum Call” and “Amazing Pendulum” to fuel our hand with Pendulum Magicians to keep playing arround their setups.Any Deck can play arround “Enlightenment Paladin” to obtain a finisher by attacking enemies and dealing damage through its battles, but clearly the effect obtained from Pendulum Magicians is what really makes it a powerful Synchro Summon to focus on. Its effect damage is undoubtly powerful specially in late game, but if we can also recover powerful cards such as “Raigeki” and “Pendulum Call” in the process makes the arrival of “Paladin” more menacing than just its attacks as we still gain something valuable iin return even if is immediately defeated. The problem mostly resides of the situation in our Graveyard when “Paladin” arrives as we might not have powerful Spell Cards if any when the time comes for its Synchro Summon. However, since it has an ability to deal damage no matter what is attacking, “Enlightenment Paladin” is overall a Synchro Monster to keep until mid to late game so can finish the game with one or both effects at once.Personal Rating: A+ Deals damage equal to the original ATK of any monster that defeats in battle+ Retrieves a Spell Card from the Graveyard if summoned using a Pendulum Magician as material+ Powerful Spell Cards to retrieve and further improve our game and/or finish the opponent with- The ability to recover Spell Cards relies of the contents in our Graveyard when summoned- Often will only become useful in mid or late game -- source link
