Roemer with a poem to Constantijn Huygens, Anonymous. Anna Roemers Visscher, 1619. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Below: the likes of Alamy are selling public domain images for ridiculous prices on their sites. The whole archive of the Rijksmuseum among others is probably on there. I loathe Alamy, Getty Images and the rest. They are ruining the internet and are in collusion with such as Google to increasingly restrict the availability of decent sized images - or any images - for the purposes of greed/profit. I noticed a couple of years ago that Google Images suddenly became crap; it’s because they came to a deal with Getty to restrict what people could access for free, including imagery in the public domain. This is why it’s now much more difficult to find things. And all this does is restrict people’s access to images for the sake of greed and for very little benefit to them. Who is going to pay $45 to use a photo for a non-commercial blog or website?! Few if any? There should be no restriction on anyone fairly using images whether public sector or not, for non-commercial purposes. -- source link
