This. #Repost @nayareadsandsmiles It’s Monday. Black people still have to go to work, take care of their families and raise their kids. We pray that we make it through the day safely, that the drive back from the grocery store ends with food in the fridge and not our bodies in a cell…or a grave. Does that sound extreme? The truth usually is. I spoke with a friend yesterday who had been protesting all weekend, it was late Sunday night and we were both..exhausted. Never had the thought of going back to work on a Monday felt so hard. The idea of summoning up energy and answering white co-workers who ask “how was your weekend?”…we both wanted to cry just thinking about it. I said to her, and to myself.. it’s ok that your not 100%, it’s ok that your not 50%…It’s OK. We do not get to take off the weight of our skin. Black is BEAUTIFUL, but it’s also heavy. It’s constantly fighting to be heard, constantly having to explain and re-explain and worry. Being Black in America is being persistently afraid but grasping tightly to faith. It’s calling your friends to make sure they get back ok after seeing cops using tear gas on KIDS. It’s explaining to your brother why he can’t walk to the convenient store in a hoody. It’s making sure you have enough space on your phone when you go out into the world, just in case…just in case your voice isn’t enough and you need video evidence to prove your not a criminal. It’s going to work on a Monday, when another Black person was killed Sunday. Please remember this. #blacklivesmatter https://www.instagram.com/p/CBdKeABJEF5/?igshid=r49i53t2u4z4 -- source link
