redarmyscreaming: qsy-complains-a-lot:Springfield M1903 MkI rifle with US Automatic Pistol M1918Designed by John Pedersen c.1910′s-1918, produced post-WW1 in 1918 and 1919 initially for the 1919 Spring offensive..30-18 Auto aka 7,62x20mm Longue caliber, blowback semi-automatic pistol mechanism feeding from a 40-round removable box magazine, inserted in place of the bolt of a slightly modified Springfield M1903 bolt-action rifle. The Pedersen device was a rifle conversion secretly developed in the United States during the Great War. It was designed to allow an AEF infantryman to quickly remove the bolt of his rifle when approaching enemy trenches and replace it with the device, turning the rifle into a high-capacity pistol-caliber semi-automatic rifle for short range gunfights. The MkI rifle and Pedersen device were issued with a new canvas webbing, featuring a metal case for the pistol mechanism, a pouch for the rifle bolt and two bags holding four magazines each, giving the soldier a total of 320 rounds of ammunition to work with.Initially planned to be used alongside Browning Automatic Rifles in the Spring offensive of 1919, production of the Pedersen device only started in December of 1918, just as the war had ended. They were never shipped to France, and instead sat in storage until they were almost all destroyed when declared obsolete in the 30′s. Remington Mosin Nagant modified for a Pederson device. The left side of the receiver has been cut down for the ejection of the Pederson casings. The device is absent but, yes, they did have Pederson devises for M91s -- source link
