These little hands are getting old. The more time passes, the more interesting and precious they become. I’ve been drawing and painting hands for over 25 yrs now. My first inspiration to draw them came from observing and studying my mother’s hands. I loved their warmth and texture. I could visually map them out in my mind without seeing them. I still can. I was so tuned into her energy that I could sense the slightest changes in temperature when I held them and I held them quite often. They were my safety net. I knew them better than my own and am lucky to have inherited those same veiny appendages. I see her in them everyday and it brings me so much comfort to draw them. They are a documentation of my life through time; my self portraits. This drawing is titled Widow’s Peak and is my first graphite piece for 2021. I consider it a warm up for the new year while I prep in the studio for larger pieces. Can’t wait to create and share my work with you.
