recapturedhonor:thetalesofbasingse:“I think of you as my own.”I think this moment is when I really started falling in love with Zuko as a character. There were other moments that had softened me up of course, but this is what really struck home. It’s one of the only times where we see him not being angry or frustrated but instead we get a new light to him. Understanding and sympathetic. He knows how much Uncle misses Lu Ten, how he wishes he could have saved him and why he’s that much more protective of Zuko. Because he thinks of him as his own son. A boy without a father and a man without his son both cast out from their country with only each other to depend on. It’s sad when you really think about it. Family means so much to them and yet they’ve lost the people they loved most. It tugs on my heartstrings whenever I see this because he knows what it means to lose someone, and that you don’t ever really get over it. He also knows that he can’t ever fill Lu Tens shoes, but that the fact Uncle would call him his own son when his father wont even look at him…it gives him hope that maybe he isn’t a total failure. When he tells Uncle ‘You don’t have to say it’ (I’m not sure if that’s the exact quote or not) it just speaks volumes to Zuko’s character. He sympathizes with Uncle and doesn’t reject the notion at all, because he could never do that to Uncle when the act is so heart wrenching in itself.Despite whatever Zuko says in the beginning of season two, this right here shows how much love and respect he has for his Uncle./brb crying myself into a coma -- source link
