“Buddha Bowls,” Bangkok, 2000.Young Buddhist Thai men are expected to serve a term as a monk, and during that time wearing saffron robes they beg for alms and food. Most monks use a special begging bowl made of hammered metal and usually enameled black. These are partially finished bowls at a tiny workshop in an alley at Soi Ban Bat, between Boriphat Road and Wora Chak Road. A visit to the alleyway is recommended, though current political conditions in Thailand may render a visit inadvisable in the near future. For more information see http://travel.cnn.com/bangkok/play/bangkoks-alms-bowl-artisans-841216 -- source link
