satanfemme:delsomebody:felinepurrstory: felinepurrstory: Leanne Franson the happy ending oh this comic shows up in a really cool anthology i bought a few years back (and was just rereading in fact) called No Straight Lines. it covers the last 40 years of LGBT comics and the various phases, influences and unsung heroes of the zine scene and more. (such as a chapter that focuses heavily on what art and stories resulted from the AIDS crisis, the clash of the gay sexual revolution and the rise of homosexual monogamy, and more.) highly recommended if you’re interested in LGBT history and comics! [ID: a two page black and white comic titled “Bof and Buzz in… Rip Up those Roles!” written in 1993 by Jeanne Franson. it starts, “Buzz was a tuff dyke, and she looked the part…” Buzz points and speaks to the viewer, “I don’t take no shit!!!” she has a square jaw, buzzed hair, and is wearing a t-shirt that reads “beware of dyke (I bite)”. the narration continues, “… she was single and up for grabs… for the right girl”. Buzz is shown being fawned over by four femme women, but she’s looking a few feet away elsewhere at another butch, Bof, who’s showing a motorcycle to a femme. Bof also has buzzed hair, and a tattoo on her arm. the narration reads, “what’s a tuff dyke to do??” while Buzz tearfully laments, “how come I only get femmey chicks?! … I want that beautiful butch one! … but she’d never go for a tuff dyke like me…” “To solace her soul, she turned to her favorite hobby.” Buzz looks lovingly at a spotted cat, and cheering up says, “I’ll knit you a mousie.”page two begins, “But that day in Yolanda’s Yarn Universe… who walked in but:” “…ohmigod!!! - it’s her!!!” Buzz thinks, looking over at the door where Bof is entering. “There was no place to hide!!!” Buzz stammers “h…h…h…”, blushes, and hides her knitting supplies behind her back as Bof walks up and cheerfully says “hi!” with a basket full of yarn at her side. “…the skein of Baby Sno-Soft was incriminating indeed!…” Buzz fiddles with her own yarn and blushes heavily, asking, “‘ya shopping for your girl??” Bof thinks to herself, “she must knit,” and replies to Buzz’s question with, “who?” “…but all was not lost…” Bof continues, “…ahh… Charlotte, my bike-repair gal!!! …no… I’m knitting her an afghan in exchange for her mechanical services!!” an exclamation point appears next to Buzz’s head. the two begin talking about knitting for a long time, depicted as them listing off many technical terms: “…cast off … seam … binding, acrylic-cotton blend … stocking stitch-sizing … knit three, purl two … size 000 needles … 100% virgin wool … matching dye-lots.” another woman in the store looks on at this in surprise. the final panel of the comic depicts Bof and Buzz lovingly hugging and kissing inside a heart-shaped frame. Bof is holding fresh baked muffins while Buzz knits. Buzz’s cat is next to them holding a home-made toy mouse happily. the narration concludes, “now Buzz and Bof are living butchly ever after (sort of).” End ID] -- source link
