PLEASE READ FULLY This is the second available tattoo design of critically endangered species. This is called a vaquita (which means little cow in Spanish) and it is both the worlds smallest cetacean and the most endangered marine mammal. There are an estimated 9 vaquita remaining in the gulf of California according to www.vivavaquita.org. Their numbers have dropped sharply due to the use of gillnets, in which the vaquita entangle and drown. Gillnets are in use to catch a large fish called a totoba, whose swim bladder is in high demand as a health food in Chin. Gillnets are also used to catch shrimp and other fish. If we don’t work to rid the gulf of California of gillnets and protect this species, they will go extinct in the next several years. Despite a Vaquita Refuge Area, illegal fishing boats still fish in the area. To help, please purchase sustainable seafood and avoid Mexican shrimp, and spread the awareness of this beautiful little porpoise. If you live in Mexico, write to your government to help stop illegal fishing in the area. Elect officials with good environmental records. There is also a movie out about vaquitas called “Sea of Shadows” (I havent seen it yet). Proceeds of this tattoo (minus tip) will be donated to www.vivavaquita.org. If interested in being entered into the lottery for this design, please email me at Melaniesteinway@gmail.com with the subject line “Vaquita Entry”. Please include size, location and your availability. No smaller than 9” in height please ♥️ winner will be randomly selected 24 hours after this post. Thank you everyone for your time. https://www.instagram.com/p/B2H7K6alY6w/?igshid=1flzy0vgystep -- source link
