The largest reptilian species alive today? That would be the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus). Males can grow to over 20 feet (6 meters) long and weigh in at over 2,000 pounds (907 kilograms)! This croc also has a skull-crushing bite—one of the strongest of any living animal. This species is found in brackish and freshwater habitats in Australia and southeast Asia and has a high tolerance for salinity, allowing them to swim in the ocean for long distances.Photo: Bernard DUPONT, CC BY-SA 2.0, flickr via: American Museum of Natural History -- source link
