I know how many people were killed, I just didn’t realize how many facilities had been built to kill people in before I saw this.There were six “death camps” i.e. camps set up explicitly for the purpose of murdering people. Auschwitz is easily the most well known, and the death camps are the parts of the Holocaust that caught the most attention, because slave labour camps were disturbingly common but death camps were a very new phenomenon. However, the vast majority of Holocaust victims weren’t gassed to death, but starved and overworked. The majority of the concentration camps were essentially massive prison labour systems. The Nazis were evil, not stupid: it made no sense to murder people when you could enslave them instead. -- source link
