They are viewed as a precious opportunity, a holy interval, when our souls and spirits have enough time and support to fully leave our physical bodies behind. Those who love us are also supported to have real closure and a chance to say goodbye. Here is the third stage of death’s threshold—the time of active dying being the first, and the moment of death being the second.
