Driving back home from PA yesterday, I made a point to stop again in Kent Falls State Park in CT, this time a bit earlier so that I could hike to the top. (Also helped that the sun sets later this time of year, so I was able to do that and still make it home - another 3 hours - in daylight.)But first (in order here, but later in the trip): Lake McDonough, on Rt. 318 in CT, below the Saville dam (which holds back the Barkhamsted Reservoir). Nicely scenic. Apparently you can boat on it. And the reservoir above is much huger than it looks from this vantage point on the dam.Anyway, I’m going to try to upload some movies, in case that doesn’t work:View from the parking lot; middle cataract of the falls. The first cataract! And the stream before it plunges (at far left, the plunge; at far right, the little bridge that marks the beginning of the trail from top to bottom; the trail is a half-mile round trip, and the elevation gain is 250 ft. / 76 m.)Let’s see if some movies work!Ooh, maybe! So, these are the five “stages” of the falls, from lowest to the top:I just REALLY love waterfalls, you guys. If I’d had time I would have sat there on the various viewing platforms for hours, just watching and listening to them. -- source link
