- The Merman - I’m very excited to share a personal project of mine that I’ve been working on. A real passion project that has been brewing in the back of my mind for quite some time. They are a series of picture books that are queer revisions/explorations of classic fairytales. The first is titled THE MERMAN, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. This is an early drawing, and I’m still experimenting with the final look and feel, but some of the inspirations I’m drawing upon are old Man Ray and Brancusi photographs, and Chris Marker’s La Jetée. My hope is to express a more artistically free, but also more personal style and narrative, while at the same time crafting a beautiful art object. The stories diverge from the originals they are inspired from, though they start with the same premise.
