treemaidengeek:myfairynuffstuff:Adolf von Becker (1831 - 1909) - The Cat on the Pillow. Oil on canvas. I love how her fancy lil food dish has been licked almost clean, & how that neat blue ribbon must’ve been tied for the portrait after she tired herself out running around I looked this man up & many of his paintings are delightful and cozy and expressive like this. Here’s Sleeping Grey Cat and a Rat, 1864:10/10 very good ear tufts, contented smile, you can tell this cat purrs in her sleep. And the playfulness of the rat venturing out to investigate while it’s safe to do so… Here’s my favorites of his portraits of children (who actually look like children, not tiny adults):A Girl Sewing, 1869Look at her. She is so smol and so focused I’m *holds gently*Curly-Haired Girl, 1869This kid is also smol and focused but the vibe is totally different. She is judging the world (including us) & isn’t at all sure about what she sees. This child is spunk and trouble and I love that for her. After Modeling, 1880This child! She is a whole mood. “Grandpaaa, stop fussing, can I go now?” “I don’t wanna wear this stupid scarf anyway. My friends are waiting. I wanna go play.” And the old man’s meticulous care, the way he patiently adjusts her scarf til it’s just right before she runs off… she trusts him enough to stand there looking bored while he fusses. He loves her enough to fuss. -- source link
