accarahara: naked-feminist: accarahara: sweetastupelohoney: phoenixwest: accarahara: I saw this on fb and I got like choked up a bit tbh because it’s so freaking TRU But it also could just be a gay dude and his lesbian BFF holding hands like it’s weird how we also just kinda just think two people holding hands means they are dating it’s kinda heteronormative Straight people also belong at Pride events. To show our support for our gay and trans friends and relations. To applaud sex positivity in all its forms. To make gay pride a universal truth, to destroy the stigma and embrace all people with dignity and acceptance. So true. Pride is about inclusivity and love in all forms more than anything else. If you know that, then this event is for you. If you don’t, then get fucked. I could not disagree more with the both of you tbh I wouldn’t have gone to my first pride event if two of my straight friends hadn’t come with me. I literally didn’t know any other queer people at the time and was way too shy and scared to go alone, and they supported me because they knew how badly I wanted to go. I do still have mixed feelings about straight people at pride though bc it can easily go from supportive to exploitative I wouldn’t have went either without my straight friend but it’s also not for them and they knew that. Just like gay bars and spaces are not places for straight people. Something being for people and people being there out of suppprt is where I disagree. Pride was made to commemorate the sacrifice people made to be seen as human beings and the issue that gay spaces and pride are heavily exploited by straight people preaching that they deserve to be there and they have a right to be there is the issue. Holding the hand of your trans friend because they are afraid to be there and going there for a good time is the difference. And it’s not about inclusiveness it’s about gay and queer people being able to celebrate basic human rights. Exactly so no one should be hesitant to attend. If you support us and want to celebrate that’s all that matters -- source link
