thefairytaledead:The World of Grimmhollow: The Blessed EmpireThe Good Fairy’s empire is a human-populated expanse of many kingdoms that benefit uniquely from her magic. Each kingdom pays tribute to her in exchange for blessings of guidance, protection, and prosperity.Every kingdom in Grimmhollow is known for its unique gifts, the magic that the Good Fairy has blessed the land with. Just as well, every kingdom has its unique brand of magical curses, brought about by the spirit world and its restless - in some cases, vengeful - inhabitants. The Kingdoms of GrimmhollowJust a few of many, a selection of kingdoms from the Blessed Empire:ALTAIR: At the center of Altair is the beautiful and haunting Glass Mountain, where, according to legend, a dragon once guarded an enchanted silver palace. Altair is known as the “kingdom among the stars”, as the Glass Mountain attracts more stars from the heavens than any other place in the world. The proudest of nations, its people are of a willpower unyielding, harboring a strong belief in destiny and the pursuit of prestigious knighthood - specifically, the holy order of knights that serve the Good Fairy. Fiercely competitive are Altair’s people, from the noblest of heirs to the most unscrupulous rogues.BEAUMONT: In Beaumont, beauty is power. Beauty is currency - your very worth is measured by your appearance, and your appearance can get you places, no matter what’s in your pockets. It is something, perhaps, in the atmosphere of this land - the desire to be young and beautiful is so pervasive among the people, Beaumont’s rulers are said to be chosen based on looks alone. The current king and queen are said to have been blessed with immortality by the Good Fairy. Everyone in Beaumont owes their looks to her magical products - her luxurious youth potions are one such gift that can never run out, or the political scene itself will set ablaze.THUNDERFALL: The one and only kingdom in the sky, a floating island once inhabited by flesh-eating Giants. Taken over by humans long ago after they raided it for its rare treasures and nearly exterminated its former inhabitants, Thunderfall’s capital city is a luxury to call home. Expensive for the view, and for its technologically advanced defenses, it is a magical wonder all its own. Getting here used to require climbing magic beanstalks, but since the Good Fairy created airships, it only takes a small flight. Sky knights patrol the air around Thunderfall, ensuring that no Giant ever enters this land again. Those who can afford to live up-top live among one of the greatest centers of trade in Grimmhollow. Those who can’t, unfortunately, are bound to the ground, where they pay the hazardous cost of living just below a city always under maintenance.LAZULITH: Lazulith, the mountainous once-kingdom of the Dwarves, was taken over by humans long ago. Its magical stones were used to craft the mysterious structures behind its impossible fortifications. Lazulith was a gift that came with an unexpected price: as people began to settle here, they realized, too late, that the spirit world was right below them. Heavy spiritual energy haunts this kingdom, and affects the very genetic essence of the people born here. Still, with Lazulith being a rich center of trade, and with its mining industry, people are wont to remain. The lure of Dwarven treasure, for them, is too great. Or perhaps something in the magic-laden cave air keeps them bound here.AURORA: So-named for the haunting lights that hover over its towns at night, which are said to signal the arrival of the Snow Queen from the otherworld. All of Aurora was once plagued by a deadly magic: cursed mirror shards, scattered about the land, would blow into people’s eyes from the Snow Queen’s harsh Winter winds, and infect them with an irreversible condition. A hallucinatory nightmare they could not escape from. In an effort to keep the Snow Queen at bay, Aurora’s monarchy had the Good Fairy magically split the kingdom into two regions: one of eternal Spring, and one of eternal Winter. While an unfortunate part of the population still endure the blizzards - and cursed shards - of the Winter region, those who have the luxury of living in eternal Spring greatly enjoy the flowers without the Snow Queen’s spontaneous cameos. Not that anyone’s seen her for years - it is rumored that her spirit has found a Mirrorborn host to occupy.————————————-Hope you enjoyed this piece of lore from The Fairy Tale Dead: a horror-fantasy game in the works. We are thinking about implementing a choice of kingdom origins into the Protagonist’s build.
