thefairytaledead:The Land of Tales: An IntroductionYou live in the world of Grimmhollow, a place where fairy tales are major history. Here, tales hold special power over the land and its creatures. Each tale is a memory from the past, ingrained into the atmosphere of the world, so that all sentient things, living and dead, recall the events and people associated with them. This is due to the power of the spirit world, the In-Between - the spirits of long-dead fairy tale Archetypes, who linger in the In-Between, harbor powerful magic that influences the world. How fairy tales are remembered by Grimmhollow is determined by how much an Archetype retains of its original memories. Fairy tales become lost or twisted when an Archetype loses those memories. The Good FairyYou live in a world of vast technmagical wonders, all created by the Good Fairy! She is Grimmhollow’s all-powerful guardian and granter of boons, worshipped by all of humankind, and the guiding hand behind every throne in Grimmhollow. She communicates with all of humankind through her marvelous Magic Mirror: a device freely available to every citizen under her protection. The Good Fairy keeps a grand archive of all the fairy tales in the world. By fighting to purge Grimmhollow of Mirrorborn - humans who corrupt the memories of Archetypes when they become possessed by them - she does her best to preserve the purity of each tale’s origins. It is no wonder she is so revered: without her knowledge and guidance, how much of Grimmhollow’s past would be forgotten? Lost forever?Magic & The Human SoulHere in Grimmhollow, there is no need to cast magic! The Good Fairy provides all the spells, potions, and magical technologies to the human market that one could ever need. Human magic is, in fact, an unlawful art. The Good Fairy has deemed magic too dangerous when left to human devices, and has, for the safety of everyone, forbid it.Not that anyone’s going around casting magic - most people can’t cast past the lucky age of five. Magic, you see, is the power channeled from deep within the human soul: the very thing the Good Fairy requires pieces of, in order to grant wishes! Given that almost everyone has invested part of their soul in the World Market, almost no one has a whole soul with which to cast magic. A slightly painful but necessary disability - and quite worth it, if you ask an expert on trade. The Good Fairy’s EmpireEvery kingdom under the Good Fairy’s empire is guaranteed protection. Primarily populated by humans, the empire is a vast expanse of many lands that all benefit uniquely from the Good Fairy’s gifts. Each monarch under her wing pays tribute to her for her guidance and magic. In return, each has received a personal blessing from her (that benefits their kingdom as a whole, of course!)Magical LandsEach kingdom in Grimmhollow is the site of fairy tales’ past. Sometimes, pockets in the atmosphere exist where the spirit world and the living one cross over - and there, spirit magic influences the land in mysterious and disruptive ways. Every kingdom has its bizarre magical landmarks, its legendary artifacts, its ancient secrets whispered only by the tongues of dead men. You just have to know where to look.———————————Interested in knowing about the kingdoms of Grimmhollow?
