My #artvsartist for this year. I almost didn’t participate because with one exception the art isn’t from 2021, and the photo is from January, and is actually just a still from a video interview I did as part of my duo show at gallery nucleus. It’s a rare photo of myself I don’t hate though, because my husband was filming me and he made me laugh, so it captures who I see myself as better than most pics do and I always feel most myself around him. I hate eye contact and photos of myself give me dysmorphia (they just never look like me! In part because selfie cameras unmirror after the photo is taken which is disorientating, especially when you have a birthmark on your face as I do, so, I never take self portraits). But! I made all the clothes you can see in this pic and that makes me happy, too! ✨ Anyway, I haven’t been able to make much public-facing art this year, but I’ve been busy behind the scenes on book projects. I’ve been enjoying the slow transition from making one-off internet pieces to making more long-form, narrative work…even if it means I only have old pieces to show…for now.
