It looked like they took an old action figure of a Baryonyx and left it in a toaster oven for too long. #baryonyx #spinosaur #spinosaurus #theropod #dinosaur #dinosaurart #paleoart #paleontology #paleobiology #art #doodle #sketch #drawing #traditionalart #traditionaldrawing #cartoon #comic #animals #animalart #animalanatomy #animalbehavior #wildlife #wildlifeart #wildlifedrawing #humor #jurassicworld #jurassicworldfallenkingdom #science #scienceillustration #scienceeducationIt is truly hideous.I’m sorry Colin did you forget you ALREADY HAD A MODELHe didn’t forget. He just decided not to.This would be the reason for “Trevorrowizeit” And that’s all I’ll be posting about this dumpster fire of a film todayI don’t care if this “Trevorrowizeit” thing is a joke. Trevorrow has nothing to do with the designs of the dinosaurs. What he said doesn’t justify this stupid fucking meme that’s going around Tumblr. It’s cancer. It’s not clever or funny in any way. It’s just a unnecessary childish mockery of someone who did nothing wrong. Insisting that Trevorrow did do something wrong for no reason shows a completely lack of knowledge on both his role in this new film and on the filmmaking process in general. At this point, nitpicking the Jurassic World films for scientific errors is futile. You have added nothing new to the conversation. All that you and others have done since Jurassic World was first announced is repeat the same things over and over again with little variation. Most well educated people know that the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park movies are inaccurate. And they don’t care anymore. The films aren’t supposed to be accurate and they must maintain proper narrative consistency. Making the dinosaurs accurate at this point would violate the established canon of the series. Besides, the filmmakers aren’t going to listen to you because A) they already have a set vision and B) you’re not giving them any feedback they can possibly work with. And making them memes is only going to derail any chance of conversation further.Okay first off I’d like to say that I was not aware of how little Trevorrow was actually involved in the film. Several people have since informed me that he was only involved in the writing, and not in any way a part of the design process, so for that I apologise. My tone in the first few posts was also very sarcastic and over-the-top, which was probably a bad choice on my part. I came off as very confrontational, which was not my intention, so I apologise for that too. However, I do disagree on the matter of accurate dinosaurs disrupting series continuity. The dinosaurs in the original Jurassic Park films were some of the most accurate dinosaurs ever shown in film at the time, with the exceptions of the size of Velociraptor and most things about the Dilophosaurus. Both in-universe and out-of-universe, the creators of these dinosaurs genuinely cared about representing the dinosaurs as accurately as they could, and not only that, but to present something new and exciting to the public that they had never seen before. The two sequels can also be excused because as far as I’m aware there weren’t any new dinosaurs being made in-universe since the original Jurassic Park.Jurassic World, on the other hand, is set in 2015. Not only has our knowledge and understanding of dinosaurs increased spectacularly since the original Jurassic films, but for the first time in the series completely new dinosaurs are being created, in numbers large enough to fill an entire park. This gave the filmmakers an opportunity to do what the original Jurassic Park did and present a new and exciting view of dinosaurs, fully realised on the big screen. But they didn’t do that, instead choosing to continue with the designs of the old Jurassic Park that we know know to be inaccurate. In doing so they ignored what the original Jurassic Park did in revolutionising popular dinosaur science. To be completely honest, my main problem with the Baryonyx in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is not so much that it’s inaccurate, but more that the design just looks unattractive, boring and dull. I don’t actually mind inaccurate dinosaur designs if they are still attractive and interesting. Probably my personal favourite examples of this are the raptors in Jurassic Park 3. These raptors are not accurate by a long shot, but in terms of creature design they are amazing. The colours and shapes used for these raptors are striking, memorable, and just generally look really nice. More than that, these raptor designs broke away from the original Jurassic Park designs to explore something new.The Fallen Kingdom Baryonyx doesn’t do any of these things. Instead, all of the distinctive features of Baryonyx, the things that make it a visually striking and memorable dinosaur, have been toned down so far that they night as well not exist. Instead of creating a different, unusual antagonist, the filmmakers have opted to make it look bland and generic, just another Scary Dinosaur Monster. It’s the equivalent of putting a Triceratops into a movie without its horns and frill, or using a Stegosaurus and getting rid of its back plates. Okay wow this got way longer than I though it would so TL;DR, the original Jurassic Park designers knew how to stay true to the distinctive identifying features of each dinosaur, and use them to create aesthetically appealing and interesting designs that were accurate to the current science at the time, and in fact revolutionised the popular view of dinosaur science. The Baryonyx in Fallen Kingdom fails at both of these things, which is disappointing to see from a film franchise that was built on exciting, novel designs. -- source link
