Photo by @amivitale. Mike Parkei carries food as the sun comes up for 8 giraffes that had become stranded on Longicharo Island, a rocky lava pinnacle, in the middle of western Kenya’s Lake Baringo. The rising lake levels inundated lush lands with water, turning the peninsula into an island and trapping the giraffes. In a dramatic rescue, two giraffe were transported across the lake on a makeshift raft, to the 44,000 acre Ruko Community Conservancy.
