Logging, near Tenom, Sabah (Borneo), Malaysia, 1978.Like the Amazonian rainforest of Brasil, the tropical hardwood forests of Borneo in Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia have suffered an immense amount of clear cutting. Huge logs of commercially valuable timber have been removed with much of the rest burned through human caused and naturally set fires. The cleared land has then been turned into palm oil plantations. Palm oil production and consumption have become the source of one of the greatest environmental problems as well as one of the greatest public health problems. -- source link
