finally posting my full illustration from the wonderful @hiraethbook!and my little artist’s statement that was published with it, for anyone curious about some thoughts behind the piece:The setting of my artwork is based on a very real location, with a fictional (although familiar) narrative within it. I have lots of memories of hiding out in this particular patch of bush; clambering over rocks, picnicking with friends, watching the sun fall below the trees. Like many of my memories — and much of my work — it’s infused with a taste of summer. It’s a season that defines home for me: endless days in the warm Australian sunlight, time spent with loved ones, the feeling of knowing it will end (but return again, too). The panels aim to represent that passage of time, while also providing a glimpse at how a single location contains multitudes — of memories, moments, and of other creatures, too. They’re small things that can seem insignificant at a glance, but add up to the value and feeling of a place. It’s also about how home is something you share. However temporarily, and whether it be with people, plants, or animals (or often all three!), it is made up of more than just walls and a roof. The trees, and the cicadas, and the birds all know that. -- source link
