shelbyxpwns:the-unpopular-opinions:Feminism has a lot of flaws. It tries to find equality when it only addresses the issues of one side. I understand that there are more issues with women’s rights than men’s rights, but both issues are present. A lot of feminists seem to think that men have every right in the world. There are a few issues where women have the edge over men, such as child custody, domestic violence cases, or prison sentences. I know I will probably get so much hate for this, especially on Tumblr, but we shouldn’t just use terms like feminism, or even masculinism, to support rights of two sexes. If you really wanted equal rights, you would be an equalist. What I don’t understand is why the biggest argument is always over the fucking name. Idgaf what you call yourself as long as you’re about equality. I don’t see why it’s such a big deal why I choose to call myself a feminist rather than an egalitarian. Like I’m a girl, so I relate more to girls, but I want everyone to be equal. Why is it such a big deal?Because you don’t call yourself a word that literally implies it’s about feminine people / females, if you want to say you’re fighting for men’s rights, you’re fighting for disabled people, you’re fighting against racism. It’s in the damn name what it’s about, equal rights for females. It’s incredibly self-centered and arrogant to want the name for fighting for equality to be all about women. Imagine if it was masculism, or something about white people, or something else tumblr hates- everyone would loathe it and fight against using it.If you want to show you’re pro equal rights and care about ALL people, you might want to start that by using a word that actually represents that, instead of a word that only represents one group of people.Besides this, feminism isn’t what it used to be anymore. It has turned into nothing but a hate group, and egalitarians would do well to disassociate with it. -- source link
