qsy-complains-a-lot:American M1917 trench knifeOne of the close-quarter weapon issued to doughboys during their early involvement in WW1. The AEF arrived in Northern France with the gift of hindsight, and although they lacked the staples of a war industry like cannons and machine guns, they were very soon equipped with proper trench fighting tools. This brawler’s special features a spiked knuckle guard and a stiff triangular blade made for stabbing, possibly inspired by repurposed Lebel bayonets used by French troops. Incidentally the next American model, the Mk1, used the same type of knife blade used by the first purpose-made trench dagger of the French army.Overall this really puts the sauerkraut in knuckle sandwich.Triangular, so good luck stitching up those wounds. About the only thing nastier would be to forge the shank with a half-twist to it. -- source link
