German Ziefeuergeverat 38 machine gun,Created by the Germans shortly before World War II, the Ziefeuergeverat 38 was not an actual weapon, but rather a trip wire activated blank firing training device.  Using an open bolt action, the devices bolt was locked back by a spring which was connected to a trip wire.  The device would have been hidden and set up, and when a soldier “tripped” the trip wire, the bolt would close firing the gun until its 70 round magazine.  This was done to simulate as best as possible an ambush by a hidden machine gun nest.Some Ziefeuergeverat 38’s came with a tripod while others were made to be mounted in tanks.  The gun fired an 8X57mm Mauser cartridge but since it only fired blanks it did not have a rifled barrel.  It is unknown how many were produced. -- source link
