blondesforreagan:liberty1776:Baron Von Steuben a bogus German nobleman taught Americans Prussian style tactics at Valley Forge winter 1777-78. This was where the US Army learned to better fight in linear formation like the redcoats. Painting by Edwin Austin Abbey. He may have not been truly titled Baron, but this Prussian gave our military the discipline it needed to win the war, walking into a demoralized American army at Valley Forge in a winter probably worse than this one. He is local legend here. The town of King of Prussia, four miles from Valley Forge is named for him; after the stories that had passed down for years in the “King of Prussia Inn” - where his portrait hung - lead to the renaming of the town of Reesville to King of Prussia. An odd name for a great town with a great mall.Baron or not, Steuben’s tactics and training methods are still used today. That should tell anybody doubting his genius all they need to know. -- source link
