lookatthesefreakinghipsters:allthecanadianpolitics:tramampoline:allthecanadianpolitics:3.6 million Canadian voted in the Advanced Polls over 4 days. That’s an increase of 71% compared to 2011.Originally posted by to-cut-a-womans-hairJesus did a million people vote yesterday??1.2 MILLION:That’s incredible!! Way to fucking go Canada! For reference, only 26 million people are even eligible to vote in this election. 13.8% of Canadian voters have already voted, in advanced polls alone! (That number doesn’t even count absentee ballots!)The Conservative base is composed of people who normally vote, which means that any increase in voter turnout is likely to be votes for one of the opposition parties. The Conservatives don’t significantly increase their vote share by increased voter turn-out.Which means that the more people that vote, the harder it is for the Conservatives to win. It’s why the Conservatives sought to suppress voting through the “Fair Elections Act” (aka the hella Unfair Elections Act), because the Act disenfranchised the poor, Aboriginal people and students, populations who do not normally vote Conservative. They banked on Canadians being apathetic and not caring that the Conservatives attempted to suppress the vote and Canadians are fighting back and exercising their democratic right to vote. -- source link
