thingsorganizedneatly:Periodic table of beach elementsSUBMISSION: In 2013, during a summer holidays in the Cadiz beaches (south of Spain), I started collecting with my daughters different stones. I was amazed by the variety of different sizes, shapes and colors. After a couple of days we collected enough of them to start playing about how they are relating to each other. I do not remember how I arrived at the idea of an interesting way of ordering them, and finally to the concept of creating somehow a periodic table with them. Some months later I started trying to arrange them by groups in the same way the different chemical elements are arranged: metal, non-metals, noble gases etc. Based on their characteristics I thought that maybe there would be different ways of organizing them. I also created two versions of the canvas, this one was done in a black cardboard trying to imitate a blackboard, and the other one was made from historical pictures of the first versions of the periodic table that I found on the internet, printed and colored to make the impression of being old documents. How to fix the stones to a canvas easily? I tested different options like magnets but it wasn’t easy to find strong and cheap magnets. After some time, the stones and the canvas were moved to our house storage, till last month, when they appeared during an inspection of the storage. It was time to decide what to do with them. I’ll probably have to trash them but I wanted to take some pictures before doing it.The pictures were taken at home with my new camera L16. The lighting was very simple, I placed the canvas and the stones near a window and took the pictures with the camera on a tripod. -- source link
