Eremurus “Joanna” is in the newly circumscribed family Asphodelaceae. Previously, this family was known as Xanthorrhoeaceae, but new taxonomic revisions have renamed this family, which also contains aloe plants. Eremurus is a genus of tall grasslike plants consisting of about 60 species found in western and central Asia. Many varieties, including the one pictured above have been bred for use in ornamental gardening. The long flowering spikes can reach up to 10 feet tall, and are composed of hundreds of individual flowers which bloom in the early summer. They are perennial plants which will bloom year after year, and require full sun for optimum growth. -- source link
