He regularly tries to help them with their love lives. And he’s usually the butt of the joke. The subtext joke is ‘this guy who is clearly smart and driven and capable and well off spends almost all of his free time and a ridiculous amount of effort trying to pick up girls for one-night stands and hangs out in a dive bar.“ His main character arc is about becoming less obsessed with bangin’. It’s an interesting dichotomy. We have academics that will write hacky ridiculous papers about “queer theory” and talk about “Queer culture” and “queer studies,” as a dissenting political and social theorum and practice. But outside a few skirt chasers and perverts, and “Punishment” characters who get comeuppance for being horny assholes that go too far and get their just desserts, the closest thing to social “hyperstraightness” would be tradcons. And we don’t have ‘tradcon’ propaganda the same way and attitude we have for the way many people try and “queer” things, politically. I’m loathe to use the term, but it’s their words, not mine.We don’t have characters in cartoons or comics that are supposed to be the Soviet Realist propaganda icons about merits or representation of heterosexuality. There are characters whose personality incorporates being heterosexual and cis, but that’s not a performative or political thing. That’s just existence. The same as how just because a black character appears on screen, it doesn’t mean they’re inclined or required to be Capital B Buhlack and represent that ‘culture.’But you WILL find people that don’t just want gay characters to sit in chairs and move along the plot. You will find people that want those gay characters to talk about gay issues and gay “community” interests and gay political contemporary topics. And because these people also believe representation is only important for, “underrepresented/oppressed minorities,” and superfluous to detrimental if “majorities” get it, they won’t push for socio-political cishetero iconography. In fact, they despise it, and consider any existence of a cishetero person to be positive representation that’s “overrepresenting” in media and culture. So in a way they’re right. Nobody progressively argues we need more and better specific cishetero rep to “advance and increase the representation of cis and hetero people.” Because that sort of fallacious thinking belongs to class struggle theorists. It’s shit. Those are the real force behind treating being gay in media and culture like it’s an absolute requirement or a sign of discrimination. People that believe everything has to be a class and everything is a demographic that requires visibility in anything that’d be considered cultural. It’s objectively insane.“I don’t WANT my LGBT or PEE OH SEE characters to have the same struggles and flaws and character development. I WANT them to sit there and add nothing to the story and be gay.”Do you fuckers realize that you’re making it EASIER to be bigoted against these characters in media? People like me are sick of us being an afterthought because of you, while people that hate us outright just want you gone because you get in the way and you’re annoying. It’s the fucking worst. I’m not even open about my bisexuality because I’m afraid not of people hating me and thinking me a degenerate but because I’m afraid people will think that is my sole personality trait. Or even worse, fetishize it. We’ve horseshoe’d from LGBT people hiding from fear of being hate crimed to LGBT hiding from fear of being fetishized. Fuck this so much. Writers who make the sexuality of an LGBT character their main/only character trait are weak IMO.Same sex relationships being under represented does NOT give you an excuse to half ass your characters. Especially if they’re supposed to be major. Be the best writer you can be. Frankly Same Sex relationships being underrepresented means that you should put MORE effort into them. Especially if you’re going to claim they’re ‘representation!!1!’.This kind of tokenism is exactly what I’m complaining about when I say some writers think being a minority automatically makes a plotline good. Lol never include homos in writing Homo’s are not only included in writing, some of the best writers are homo’s. Have a seat you fucking moron Oh really? Name every single one of them. Too dumb to use google yourself? Not surprising.. I’ll list 5 for you right off the top of my head1) Lana Wachowski/Lily Wachowski - “The Matrix” (not only are they homos, they’re trannies!! D: I bet you HATE that don’t you? betcha didn’t even know the whole red pill/blue pill scene was inspired by the way choosing to start medically transitioning went in the 90’s ☺️ but don’t take my word for it- feel free to make yourself even more mad when you look it up yourself!)2) Dustin Lance Black - “Milk”3) James Whale - “Frankenstein” (the original one) AND “The Invisible Man”4) Roland Emmerich - “Independence Day” 5) Alan Ball - “Six Feet Under” and “True Blood”Shall I continue to dog the shit out of you with my peoples success? Lol bc there’s lots more I can list but I’ll have to get back to ya tomorrow or something cause I’m about to light this blunt and enjoy my evening without the added stress of having to put dumbass homophobes on tumblr (of ALL sites lmao) in their place Just lmk I’ll surely be in touch with more names of successful “h0mOz In RiTiNg” BAHAHAHAHA typical response of an embarrassed weak minded beeyatch who loses an argument Me right now: Hate LGBT’s all you want and have whatever little views and opinions you’d like, but to say MY good good lgbt ppl have no place in cinema and need to be left out of writing? I think tf NOT. I’m pretty sure you didn’t get blocked because you won the argument, but more because you’re actively trolling and acting childish. And I say this as someone who disagrees with Fault. Do you HONESTLY think I give a fuck about ”aCtIvElY tRoLlInG :(“ a scumbag like the person I originally replied to on my old account? Or if some random black man i dont even know nor give a fuck about thinks im being childish? shut your stupid ass the fuck up he blocked me because he couldn’t handle getting further roasted and you wont change my mind > #Ill act childish all the fuck i want to#And you can die mad about it bitch#Like i give a fuck your faggot ass blocks me #Block my new one too cause im back to “troll” and “be childish” again Well, if you insist. Okay but honest to christ they were asked about writers and instead they listed out a series of directors and tv writers. Like, James Whale didn’t even write any of his movies, and almost half of the things listed were adaptations (Frankenstein, Invisible Man, True Blood) so really even for trolling it’s shit-tier trolling. And to be brutally honest I’d never state the first film adaptation of Frankenstein was the best written goddamn film, jesus fucking christ. It might be a classic but from a writing perspective it’s shallow as fuck and is personally responsible for the general perception of the Monster as an idiotic brute.Seriously that’s not even a burn that’s just badly researched childishness. Do fucking better. Go for the fucking gusto and name Arthur C Clarke or something. Then again that would require knowing what you’re talking about instead of being a childish shit so I know I’m expecting too much. -- source link
