Today is Juneteenth, the day on which Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to enforce the freedom of the remaining enslaved people in the US — two and a half years after the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation. WNDB continues to reflect on the ways Black people are still not free today and, more importantly, on the ways non-Black people can combat anti-blackness and the systemic inequalities and injustices Black people face. We wish our Black followers, volunteers, and colleagues a day of rest, joy, and community as the rest of us continue to do the work, uplift Black voices, and resist revisions of reality that deny the truth of our past and present. We are not free until we are all free.
