artripoli: April 26th 2008 was an insane day for me. I jumped in a car with a few bud’s, and headed 5 hours to Marshalltown IA for Modern Life Is War’s “last show.” I had never gotten to see the band, and at the time of their last show I was at my height of shooting hardcore punk shows. I had no idea the scale of the crowd that would be at this show, but when we walked in we were blown away. They had built a stage just for this show in this little VFW hall, and all the bands that opened for them played on the stage. Not even two songs into Modern Life Is War’s set, the stage collapsed from the weight of kids getting on it to sing along and stage dive one last time for this band. I was blown away. 15 minutes later the stage was in pieces outside and MLIW set up on the floor to continue their farewell set. People came from all over to be a part of this… If I recall correctly someone came as far as from Australia for this. It was honestly one of the most emotionally intense shows I had ever experienced. I instantly fell in love with this band and unfortunately it was their last show. Then just 4 months ago they issued an announcement, “Modern Life Is War is an active band again...” And unlike every other band out there reuniting and cashing in on their old songs, MLIW set out and recorded a new album to play new shows with. This month is their first show back together in over 5 years, and I couldn’t be more pumped (wish I was going to TIHC for it). Today they put their new album, Fever Hunting, up on pitchfork to stream before it is released in September, and I will be honest with you, this band has not missed a step. Go check it out right now. So as I took in the new album this evening after work, I went through some of my favorite photos from that epic farewell show and re-edited them. (Actually I edited them for the first time, because I used to never edit anything once upon a time.) Seriously, go listen to Fever Hunting right now. -- source link
