EthiopiaSkate Exhibition in London Featuring Photography by Daniel Reiter.A homegrown youth skate movement founded on the streets ofEthiopia’s capital in 2013, Ethiopia Skate and its founders Californiaphotographer Sean Stromsoe and Ethiopian skateboarder Abenezer Temesgen havededicated this project to creating a platform that uses skateboarding as ameans of building confidence, encouraging individual creativity, and making a community through their core vision.“We vision that children from all backgrounds can cometogether to have access to skateboarding equipment and free skateboardfacilities and this community can ensure that all members have the means ofeducation and healthy living.”Now, will several mentors, many more kids with skateboardson the streets of Addis, and a strong online following especially on Instagram, Ethiopia Skate issharing more of their experiences through the work of photographer Daniel Reiter (pictured above) whobegan photographing the Ethiopia Skate community in 2015, documenting thecity’s skate culture and collecting skateboards and streetwear for donations.Reiter’s pictures encapsulate the hopes and dreams of theyoung skaters in Addis Ababa. In an exhibition curated by Jacob Roberts-Mensah,the Rich Mix Lower Café Gallery hosts a selection of works from Daniel Reiter’sphotoseries.To encourage support where its needed most concerning this project, visitors will have the chance to purchase limitededition fine art prints in different formats. All profits made will be gearedtowards the development of the Ethiopian skate scene and ultimately supportingkids in getting off the streets and on to skateboards.
