ladyswillmart: One of my favorite Lab Rat easter eggs is that Aperture apparently has HEV chargers just like in Black Mesa…I feel like this is a case where they have the chargers installed throughout the facility here and there but there’s not an actual HEV suit to be had anywhere on the entire premises, and there never was. As a result, nobody knows what the boxes are for or why they exist, e.g., one especially dense intern mistook it for a Coinstar and shoved like 22 quarters inside before it started beeping ominously. And they always seem to be installed in arbitrary places, usually right at the entrance to a particularly hazardous area of the facility, like the Sentry Turret Proving Grounds or the Aperture Perpetual Roller Derby Tachyon Collider or the Geothermal Power Substation & Frisbee Accumulator or the Chemical Plant Zone (Act 2). One might think this would provide some environmental insight as to what these boxes are for, but ultimately most employees would just write them off as excessively technological tampon dispensers (or something to that extent) and get on with their days.“No, I don’t suppose we ever needed anything like that here,” said Doug Rattmann, after having the concept of an HEV Suit explained to him. “You might be surprised at how sturdy these lab coats are. At the end of the day, Cave Johnson’s one and only talent was making damn good shower curtains. Virtually indestructible, so much that Aperture couldn’t desynthesize and recycle some 60 years’ worth of deadstock into component materials so they had them all cut and sewn into these fetching coats instead. Now I won’t say that one could stop a bullet—obviously that would be a lie. But blood stains? Those wash right out, so it’s almost like you never got shot at all, eh?” -- source link
