We got a zip car and went on a stock up grocery run on the 7th. I wanted to get a few more things so we went last night. When there’s a big snowstorm the stores are wiped out of bread and milk. When there’s a pandemic and people are staying home more than a day or two they buy all the fresh and frozen vegetables and fruit, except for 8 tomatoes and one container of golden oyster mushrooms. They put packages of sun dried tomatoes where the fresh ones should be and surrounded it by many packages of fresh basil. It took up 1/20th of the space normally full of tomatoes, avocados, etc. There was some bread, but a lot of it was like hotdog rolls. There were two packages of pasta. No tinned tomatoes. Most of the sauce was gone, but they had some on an end cap. The olive oil and vinegar were decimated. I’ve never seen that before, but it makes sense for long term planning. They had plenty of milk, but no eggs, flour, sugar, and not much cereal. They had some ice cream, but most of it was halo top or like $7 a pint. I’m going to make some if I can buy more eggs tomorrow. I’ve been plant herding, starting seeds, cooking, and etc. I’ve been vacuum sealing bags of mirepoix and other things so they’ll last longer. Our freezer is small so the vacuum sealing helps, plus less freezer burn. Gonna go make granola now and roast some squash for soup. How are you guys doing? What are you up to? -- source link
