Andean cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruvianus) - Central Male #04Here’s the first of a few photos I managed to shoot in between data collection (which is mostly filming) at the lek. I just got back from two weeks in the Peruvian cloud forest studying how male cocks-of-the-rock choreograph dance and song to court mates.Although I didn’t band birds for this study, lekking species like Andean cock-of-the-rock exhibit extreme loyalty to a single display perch. So, although it’s impossible to be 100% certain about which bird is which, I feel confident calling him Male #4 because he would always display at perch 4. This photo was actually taken right above the display perch. -- source link
