fanfictionqueen90: cartoonking1:eric-coldfire: frasier-crane-style:eric-coldfire:frasier-crane-style:struffert20:scdk-nsfw: The quote would be more accurate if it said “Cartoons were never as easy, fast and (potentially) cheap to make as they are today”. Just because the tech improved considerably since the 80s, writing has not. The only difference is that it’s laden with political nonsense, dumb memes and ‘lolsorandom’ humor that makes the occasional anime bugeye-surprise and faceplant scenes feel innocent. And it’s not that nostalgic people hate new things. They love new things. IF the new things are actually good. Which sadly isn’t true 75% of the time. There are some 80s-90s classics that are drawn and written better than things you can find nowadays, because back then quality was important and people still cared about it back then. There’s an occasional error or outdated bit, but it doesn’t define the entire show as a whole. Cartoons such as Rescue Rangers come to mind. Gargoyles, etc. Now you look at all those countless reboots of cartoons that back then used to be popular, piggybacking on said popularity but completely wrecking everything the original had to offer. Character designs, personalities, backstories and whatnot are all just…thrown out the window and replaced with something the design artist and writer(s) felt “more appropriate”. Deviating so hard from the original, you can’t help but ask yourself one question. “Why didn’t you make something ORIGINAL, then?” (Sidenote: everything I just said could also be applied to live-action adaptations, such as the Transformers movies, Resident Evil, Teen Titans, etc) That said, I don’t particularly care for She-Ra on its own. I have maybe seen 6-8 episodes at best, so it doesn’t define my childhood. Anyway, most of the fanart I’ve seen so far fixed the main gripe I’ve had with her design (having a boy-head with the hair so firmly and flatly pressed onto the top of her skull that there’s zero volume and looks more like some kind of mullet), …though apparently 70% of those images are actually fembois XD I’m not saying all of the reboots are trash, but there are ones that are a blatant cash-grabs. Yeah, fuck Batman TAS, Teen Titans Go is on, let’s watch that! Old cartoons that were never as as good as cartoons today:Cartoons today that people only hate because they’re nostalgic jerks who can’t appreciate new things:Yeah, I’m pretty sure cartoons nowadays just suck, and dumbasses are trying to excuse them either out of malice for old fans or ignorance for not knowing any better. Also, didn’t a bunch of the SPOP fans freak out over there being a live-action reboot in development, even though the SPOP series ran its course and ended? By their own logic, aren’t they massive hypocrites for insisting the new She-Ra show be more of She-Ra and Catra’s totally not abusive relationship instead of “appreciating new things”? Yep, they lost their shit on twitter because the new She-Ra in development wasn’t following the shitty Netflix version everyone but them hated, and began to demand petitions that it change to be the version they loved.Similar to how Ghostbuster 2016 fans were quick to laugh and belittle fans of the first two Ghostbusters films, but then threw tantrums when their version of Ghostbusters was being ignored when Afterlife was announced. They’re quick to say “you’re not the target audience” to old fans who kept a franchise alive long enough for them to taint, but they can’t handle they’re not the target audience. They’re like a child whining about a toy he never keeps playing with and when they get it because of the side because they don’t really care about it. Funny, I wore my nostalgic Nickelodeon sweatshirt today while taking the fur babies for a stroll. Add it to the list of reasons why I must be a jerk. -- source link
