There are different methods to assess cardiovascular efficiency, one is the Harvard step test. The person that is taking the test has to go up and down of a platform in a cycle of 2 seconds (1 second up, 1 down or 30 steps/minute) and she has to maintain the rhythm for 5 minutes or till exhaustion. After the test she immediately sits down and heart beats are counted from 1 to 1,5 ; 2 to 2,5 and 3 to 3,5 minutes after the struggle is finished. Now you have to calculate: (100 x test duration in seconds)/(2 x sum of heart beats in the recovery period).Compare the result with a table. For females: (excellent >86), (good 76-86), (medium 61-75), (scarse 50-60), (insufficient <50)In the animation a more interesting version with a simple ECG is depicted. -- source link
