Which is the lowest heart rate to sustain consciousness?It’s really hard to find an answer… What creates blood pressure is clearly the systole and globally we can define blood pressure as: (cardiac output x periferal vascular resistance) with the first one as (heart rate x stroke volume). In the case the heart rate becomes too slow there will be an important BP drop between the two beats overcoming compensation mechanisms and this event will make the patient to loose consciousness. A normal heart rate for an average person is between 60 - 100 bpm so it’s reasonable to consider that under 60 bpm that average person should start to experience symptoms (at least on a standing or sitting position).
