TROPICAL DEFORESTATION: The world lost 3.75 million hectares of tropical primary rainforests in 2021, a rate equivalent to 10 football pitches a minute, according to new analysis from WRI and University of Maryland. This forest loss resulted in 2.5 gigatons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to India’s annual fossil fuel emissions. Indonesia reduced primary forest loss for the fifth straight year, showing that corporate commitments and government actions to reduce deforestation are working in some countries. Meanwhile, Brazil yet again topped the list for most primary forest loss. Graphic by WRI -- source link
