naemaroh:After years and years (7 almost) of fighting for the right to drive I finally saved up enough to get a car for myself. Having promised myself to take on one battle at a time - I’d set myself a goal; that by 2016 I’ll have a car of my own. I’ve had to fight a lot, against a dad who thinks girls can’t drive. Against a family that marries off girls no later than 23. Against a mom who believes I’m a failure for aspiring to boy-ish things. Against every single Pakistani man who thinks I’m damaged, who thinks they can fix me by ‘loving’ me, who thinks I’m sad and alone for having goals as they are a substitute for the lack of love in my life. Today, I’m one step closer to being independent, to being free - A freedom I’ve been fighting for the past 5 years. One step closer. A lot more to come - many more battles to fight - many more archaic mentalities to fight against. To marching on and never giving up! After being the first girl in my family to be single by choice at 25, being the first girl in my family to have a post graduate degree, being the first girl to work a job (and keep said job over a year), now I’m the first girl in my family to own her own car. Feels so damn good! All emotional rants aside: ISN’T SHE A BEAUT? -- source link
