Fashion designer Norman Hartnell in his London office (1944),comparing his original sketch & fabric sample to the finishedproduct, worn by a model. The dress was made from a jewel printfabric that he had designed.Hartnell was part of the Incorporated Society of London FashionDesigners, founded in 1942 to represent the collective interests ofthe British fashion industry, promote exports, and develop standardsof design. They were commissioned by the Board of Trade to producedesigns for Utility clothing that were stylish yet also economic. -- source link
