i recently revisited the first Armored Core game to see how it holds up against my memory. i used to skip over mission text and dialogue when i was a kid, but now i’m actually somewhat invested in AC’s sparse storytellingwhen you get your first couple of mission offers, i kind of thought it was going to be one of those branching morality things, where one mission is clearly immoral, and the other clearly is not- but that’s not really the case, your choice is essentially between strike-breaking and forced eviction. you’re a bastardous tool of the financial elite in either caseand the final kick in the teeth is that, as an independent contractor of sorts, you’re on the hook for your own expenses- ammunition expended, any repairs your mech may need, and collateral damage… and being that this is a brutally difficult FromSoft game, your expenses will probably be so extensive that your pay will be minimal at bestyou’re a weapon of capitalist terrorism and you’re not even getting paid well for it. bummer! -- source link
