barbucomedie:The Royal Barge of King João VI of Portugal from Lisbon dated to 1778 on display at the Museu de Marinha in LisbonBuilt in 1778 by order of Queen Maria I by the Royal Naval Shipyard in Lisbon, for the betrothal of the Duke of Braganza, and later King, João VI to Carlota Joaquina of Spain. After that it passed to the official service of the royal family. The barge was manned by 80 sailors at the ours, a coxswain and a bowman. Its last use was to transport Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom up the river Targus during her official visit to Portugal in 1957.Photographs taken by myself -- source link
