Seemingly oblivious to her daughter’s discomfort, Maureen smiled at the job she’d done with the knots. She slid off the bed and turned to face her sullen daughter. Maureen grasped Judy’s chin in her fingers and raised her frowning daughter’s face to meet hers. “This is for your own good, Judy, you know that.” She said, her voice a bit softer. “I know viewings are difficult, but they’re not the end of the world! I had to do it for five young men before I did it for your father and he decided to marry me! This is only your first one and it may be your last one if the young man your father is bringing home likes you!” Maureen looked and saw her daughter was unmoved. She stood up and crossed her arms. “I would count my blessings if I were you, little girl! Your grandfather made me do all my viewings without a stitch on! Your father is a lot nicer. After you’ve had some time to think about how foolish and contrary you’ve been, I will expect you to help me serve at the table tonight! The young man will want to see some of your domestic skills!
