His fingers ran idly across flesh still cold from the grave. The faint pulse beneath her skin, struggled to break free of the grim reaper’s icy grip, but the Doctor remained confident. He had cheated death before and he would do so again. He stroked an auburn tress from her face and checked the fit of her mask, the steady hiss of air silenced as he corrected the tightness. She’d be breathing on her own soon, he could feel it now. As though she were responding to his very thoughts, dark eyelashes began to bat and finally her eyes went wide. Her body jerked against its restraints, but only for a moment. As soon as his eyes locked with hers, she fell still.
